Gold Coast volunteers team up to help girl with tumour tick off bucket list items

Everyone has a bucket list, but five-year-old Issabella Jones is running out of time to cross items off hers.

Doctors say she could have as little as a year to live after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor earlier this month. She is about to start chemotherapy in an attempt to slow the tumor’s growth, but before then her family wanted to make the most of the time while Issabella is still feeling relatively well.

“You take every day like it’s your last, so every memory is great to make at the moment,” Issabella’s mum, Renee, told 9News. Issabella compiled a list of experiences – at the top was a ride on a motorcycle and boat. After hearing her story, The Gold Coast Social Motorcycle Club and Southport Volunteer Marine Rescue teamed up to help create some memories, enlisting the help of local police and firefighters to make a special morning.

Some of the ‘toys’ at her disposal were a police ATV, fire engine and cherry picker.

According to dad Troy, a ride in an ambulance wasn’t on the wish list.”She said, ‘no, not the ambulance because I’m always in the ambulance’,” he said.

Southport VMR volunteers took Issabella for a cruise around the Gold Coast Broadwater.”You can’t stop her talking,” volunteer Niall Murray said.”She’s so excited, big smiles on her face and that’s what we’re here for.”The final item will be ticked off tomorrow morning when the Social Motorbike Club takes Isabella on a ride around the hinterland.
