DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 31-year-old man was killed early Sunday in a hit-and-run crash on Detroit’s west side.

Herman Ray Walters III, known by friends and family as “Rocky,” was on his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle on the southbound Southfield Service Drive near Schoolcraft when Detroit Police said he was struck by a car.

Detroit police are still looking for the vehicle and the driver that struck him.

According to family, Rocky died at the hospital.

“They broke his skull open and left him on the side of the road. They didn’t call 911. They didn’t try to help. They didn’t try to save my son’s life,” said Julie Baughman, Rocky’s mother.

Riding wasn’t just a hobby for Rocky, it was in his blood. He’d been riding since he was 16, and his family rides, too. They’re members of the Penetrators Motorcycle Club in Detroit.

News of Rocky’s death has shaken the entire club community.

“Having a large support system is going to help, but I don’t think you ever can truly get over something like this,” said Matthew Sweet, Rocky’s uncle.

Rocky’s family is now pleading the person responsible for Rocky’s death comes forward.

“I hope that it was an accident. I pray that you know what you did was wrong and that you’ll do the right thing and turn yourself in,” Sweet said.
