Footage showing the yobs have been released by Northumbria Police after a report they attempted to steal a medical staff member’s own motorcycle.

At about 12.30pm on Easter Monday, April 13, four men riding two on two motorcycles entered the multi-storey car park at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle.

It was reported that they attempted to steal a motorcycle that belonged to an NHS worker before they were disturbed by someone in the car park.

They fled the car park empty-handed but returned to the car park at 2.45pm the same day, where they were again disturbed, coming off their bikes as they escaped.

An investigation is underway to find those responsible, with CCTV released of the suspected thieves.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Pitt, of Northumbria Police, said: “Our NHS workers are doing an incredible job and risking their own lives to save others.

“We know that the public will join us in saying how proud of them we are.

“We know that the public would also agree that this type of offending is despicable, particularly when thieves have targeted NHS workers during these unprecedented times.

“Today we are asking for the support of the public in our investigation and we need anyone who knows those involved to get in touch.

“The males are all wearing helmets but we know that there will be people in the community who know who they are and we would ask you to tell us what they know.

“We all need to come together as a community now more than ever and I know that anyone with information will want to do the right thing.

“In the meantime, we have focused patrols around the RVI to deter any further incidents and reassure staff that we are here to keep them safe.”
