Devon and Cornwall Police’s Force Incident Manager explained the cause of the crash.

He said: “A lorry has pulled out unexpectedly, then a car has braked to avoid hitting it and this appears to be the cause of the collision.”

The air ambulance attended the scene earlier and landed on the westbound carriageway, resulting in the closure of both lanes.

The road reopened just before 2.30pm but there is still queueing traffic on the A30 and on the B3279.
