A man who was allegedly part of a brutal bashing which saw several of the alleged victim’s bones broken with a guitar was committed to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court on Thursday.
Police say at the time of the attack Dean Stephen Reid, 31, of Giralang, was the president of the Satudarah Outlaw Motorcycle Club.
He has pleaded not guilty to six charges, including intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, aggravated robbery and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Police documents allege Mr Reid attended the man’s Oaks Estate home with a group and demanded drugs.
When the group got inside it is alleged Mr Reid held a knife to the man’s throat and held him down while another man repeatedly smashed an electric guitar into his leg.
The group were joined by a woman who allegedly said “You’re a pig you cunt, you deserve what you get” and “get the keys to the cars” and “fuck him up”.
One of the other men allegedly picked up a weight bar and hit the man with it.
The men allegedly stomped on the man’s head before leaving the house with his two phones and car.
The man suffered a broken leg, four broken ribs, a torn spleen and other cuts and bruising.
It’s alleged that days later Mr Reid went to the Canberra Hospital where he found the man recovering and allegedly offered him his car back if he recanted his statement.
Mr Reid was allegedly identified on security camera footage entering and exiting the hospital.
Police documents stated Mr Reid was the East Canberra chapter president of the Rebels MC in 2014 but is now president of the Satudarah.
Other arrests have been made in relation to the alleged assault.
Mr Reid has been remanded in custody and will return to court in July.
