Man Shoots Motorcyclist During Tarpon Springs Road Rage Incident

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — The Tarpon Springs Police Department is investigating a road rage incident that ended in a shooting at the intersection of East Klosterman Road and South Disston Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Tarpon Springs Police, the incident involved 15 to 20 motorcyclists and a black 2011 Mercedes Benz S-class sedan.

The motorcycles and Mercedes Benz were traveling south on U.S. 19 North from Beckett Way when the driver of the Mercedes told police the motorcyclists began ramming his car and hemming him in, preventing him from driving away. The driver’s 9-year-old son was with him at the time. The man told police he fired at the motorcycle gang in self-defense, hitting a 17-year-old motorcyclist in the right bicep.

The teen transported himself to the Medical Center of Trinity for treatment.

The Mercedes driver immediately reported the incident to police but all the motorcyclists left the scene before police arrived.

No arrests have been made.
