Carrum Downs man charged with weapons offences after Mongols raids

A Melbourne man will face court today charged with a string of weapons offences, following raids linked to the Mongols MC.

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce arrested the 30-year-old Carrum Downs man this morning, after a number of firearms were seized at Port Melbourne on Wednesday.

The man has been charged with possessing a traffickable quantity of firearms, three unregistered handguns and various other weapons, including a sub machine gun.

It comes as accused Mongols bikies Josh Rider, 29, and Aaron Ong, 35, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, charged with the murder of fruit and vegetable trader Paul Virgona.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster confirmed police seized six firearms and ammunition from a commercial property at Port Melbourne during the raids.The 30-year-old man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
