Two men appeared in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court yesterday after police raids executed in Melbourne on Tuesday, including at a Hells Angels clubhouse.
Shepparton police Detective Sergeant Mark Crossley said Shepparton detectives travelled to Melbourne on Tuesday and co-ordinated a series of early morning raids and arrests ‘‘in response to a violent crime committed on a local businessman’’.
Det Sgt Crossley confirmed six raids were executed in Melbourne at private addresses, a Hells Angels clubhouse in Thomastown where ammunition and other items were seized, and two businesses.
Following the raids, the detectives charged a 53-yearold man and a 34-year-old man with extortion, armed robbery, aggravated burglary and assault.
They both appeared in court yesterday, where neither made an application for bail.
Police said they believed the men were involved in a serious assault at an Ashenden St business in Shepparton last year.
Police allege the men were armed with handguns and made threats to kill the victim, a 50-year-old Shepparton man, and made demands for a large sum of money.
They allegedly f led the sceneempty handed, and the victim was not physically injured during the incident.
The men were remanded to appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
