‘Withdraw the petition or there will be consequences’, that was the spirit of a telephone call that councilor Rob Kok (Municipal Eemsdelta Municipalities) received. The reason is his intention to submit a proposal with which he wants a ban on wearing the colors of the Hardliners motorcycle club.
According to Kok, the caller was fairly clear. If he does not withdraw his proposal, the caller will hit him ‘face-to-face’, whereby he will ‘notice what the consequences are’.
When Kok made it clear to the caller that he did not like this type of blackmail, he was told that there was no blackmail. It was a promise.
Motion against wearing ‘full colors’
Kok van Gemeentebelangen Eemsdelta (formerly List Stulp) is the initiator of the proposal that was introduced to the city council on Thursday evening.
In it he requests the college to include in the General Local Ordinance that it is forbidden to wear visible clothing that has characteristics or is very similar to those of a forbidden organization. He is referring to the prohibited motorcycle club Hells Angels.
Kok: “The Hardliners logo is very similar to that of the Hells Angels. The font is the same and the wing is prominent. There is a shark instead of a skull.”
Council was shocked
“This scares me terribly,” responds Group Chairman Piet van Hoogdalem (CDA). “It is important that we act unanimously and unanimously in this. Other councilors also responded with surprise.
Mayor Gerard Beukema has been in contact with the police and the Public Prosecution Service about the threat phone call. He wants to meet with the board of the relevant motorcycle club. He states that a council member may also form a position in this municipality. “Threat from anyone is out of the question.”
Motion is being adjusted
The mayor supported the proposal, but indicated that he wants to revise the text because he needs to have legal clarity on some points. He would also like to adjust the APV in collaboration with merger municipalities Appingedam and Loppersum.
The rest of the council agreed, with the exception of Jan Ottens of the Seniors Party.
Delfzijlster chapter by MC Hardliners
The former president of the Delfzijl chapter of MC Hardliners is Michael Groeneveld. He says that the telephone conversation has indeed taken place. “But Kok’s story is one-sided. He does not let know what he did and said himself. ” According to Groeneveld, Kok had promised not to mention MC Hardliners in his motion. “It would be about motorcycle clubs in general.”
He also did not want to comment on the subject.
