The man charged with shooting dead Comanchero boss Mick Hawi has suffered a jailhouse bashing in which his teeth were badly damaged.
Yusuf Nazlioglu, 38, (pictured) who is on remand, was in the yard of the hospital inside Long Bay prison when a 30-year-old inmate allegedly ran at him about 11.45am on Tuesday.
NSW Corrective Services confirmed the attacker allegedly “started punching and kicking him in the head and legs”. A third, 26year-old inmate, allegedly joined the assault.
“Correctional officers ordered the pair to stop and all inmates were removed from the yard,” it said. “The 38-year-old sustained injuries to his facial area, including damage to his teeth, and was treated on site.”
All three were placed in segregation as police and corrective services began investigating. Nazlioglu is awaiting trial on accusations he killed Hawi with a string of shots through his car window in 2018. He has pleaded not guilty.
