Outlaws MC patchholder indicted on murder charges for fatal shooting outside Fall River bar

FALL RIVER — A 25-year-old Taunton man arrested in September amid an ongoing feud between two rival motorcycle clubs has been indicted on murder and assault charges in a fatal shooting near a Bedford Street bar.

Joseph “JoJo” Noe was indicted by a Bristol County grand jury Dec. 19 on charges of murder and two counts of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, moving the case to Superior Court.

Prosecutors identified Noe as a member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club who, allegedly fired his five-shot revolver during a fight among Outlaws and members of the Sidewinders Motorcycle Club in the Xtra Mart parking lot beside JC’s Cafe the evening of Sept. 13.

Noe was allegedly seen on surveillance footage withdrawing his firearm and pointing it toward a group of people before firing several shots, a prosecutor said at Noe’s initial court appearance.

The shooting led to the death of 39-year-old Oak Bluffs resident Eric Voshell, who suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the back of the head. Voshell was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:12 a.m., police said in an affidavit.

A 23-year-old Bridgewater man and a 37-year-old Fall River man were also injured in the shooting.

Noe fled the scene, according to police. He turned himself in to authorities Sept. 16 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Days after the shooting, police in tactical gear executed no-knock warrants to search the Sidewinders’ longtime clubhouse on Kilburn Street and the Outlaws clubhouse at the corner of Bogle and Pleasant streets.

According to a search warrant affidavit, the Outlaws and Sidewinders, an affiliate of the Hells Angels, have been locked in an ongoing feud over territory.

In February, Fall River police responded to a “disturbance” at Scottie’s Pub, where dozens of Sidewinders and Outlaws were present, but nothing got physical, the affidavit states.

Roughly two months later, up to 15 Outlaws and 35 Sidewinders “charge[d] toward” each other but were stopped by police outside a mixed martial arts fight in Plymouth. The following month, officers identified several Sidewinders during a police response to Cafe Rio in Fall River.

Then, in late October, federal agents arrested Bruce Sartwell, 41, at his home in Brockton.

Sartwell was identified in federal court documents as the regional president of the Brockton/East Bridgewater chapters of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, and was indicted last month on one count of possession of an unregistered firearm.

Noe’s father, Joseph “Joe Doggs” Noe, is the former leader of the Taunton chapter of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club.

He was one of more than a dozen reported members arrested in 2007 on federal conspiracy charges following a two-year investigation into the Outlaws’ Taunton and Brockton chapters.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, according to court documents.

The former chapter president petitioned the court to terminate his term of supervised release 18 months early, but court documents show his request was denied by a magistrate judge one day before the fatal shooting that led to his son’s arrest.

In November, the elder Noe was arrested for allegedly violating the terms of his release. After a hearing, Noe was released to home confinement with conditions. A final revocation hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14, federal court records show.

The 25-year-old Noe is due to be arraigned on the murder and assault charges in Superior Court Jan. 17. He remains held without bail.
