A man arrested during a series of police raids on a Head Hunters MC pad in Christchurch has admitted being part of a criminal group supplying methamphetamine.
Benjamin Gabriel Dean Kney, 46, pleaded guilty to participating in an organised criminal group in the High Court in Christchurch on Thursday.
According to the charge sheet Kney participated in the group’s activities from August 22 to December 6, 2016.
Kney was arrested in December 2016 as part of an investigation into the criminal activities of Christchurch patched members and associates of the Head Hunters MC.
According to the summary of facts, an associate of one of the patched members of the club was regularly selling methamphetamine to a number of people.
Kney, who has a background in martial arts and boxing, was tasked with the recovery of outstanding debt in relation to these deals. The debt money he obtained would go back to the club’s headquarters.
Karl Steven Shepherd, who was also arrested as part of the police investigation, pleaded guilty to five charges in April 2017. The charges included conspiring to supply methamphetamine, possession of two sticks of explosives, possession of ammunition, possession of a pipe for consuming methamphetamine, and cultivating cannabis.
Five other defendants have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to go on trial.
Kney was remanded on bail to June 24 for sentencing.
