Search for missing motorcyclist called off after body found at crash site

The search for a 66-year-old motorcyclist has been called off after the discovery of a body at a crash site at Booroobin, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Emergency Services were called to the scene on a winding stretch of the Maleny Stanley River Road at 8:30am.

Queensland Police said while formal identification has not been made, it’s believed to be the body of Siemon Mulder, who failed to return home after setting off for a ride on his blue Triumph motorcycle last week.

He left his home at Sandgate, north of Brisbane, on Monday morning and told his wife he intended to travel to Esk, north-west of Ipswich.

Yesterday, police and State Emergency Service volunteers searched 18 of the 21 possible routes Mr Mulder may have taken.

The area covered a 100-kilometre search radius involving roadways from Ferny Grove, through the Samford Valley to Esk and back through Dayboro.

A local motorcycle club also arranged a large-scale ride of the area.

Police thanked the public for their help with their missing person appeal.
