An Ormond Beach drug trafficker with ties to motorcycle clubs was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Florida announced.
Barbara “Barbie” Caylor-Hernandez, 48, was among 16 people who were arrested in August 2018 as part of a federal methamphetamine bust. In January, she pleaded guilty to a count of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Federal agents from the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted an investigation, launched in April 2017, into the drug-trafficking organization DTO, which supplied drugs to outlaw motorcycle clubs across Central Florida, said William Daniels, a spokesman with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The investigation revealed that Caylor-Hernandez was “one of the leaders” of DTO, which was distributing methamphetamine in large quantities from Georgia to Florida, Daniels said. The group was distributing the drugs specifically to cities such as Daytona Beach, Holly Hill and St. Augustine, according to a media release.
Members of the Pagans and Thunderguard motorcycle clubs were among Caylor-Hernandez’s clients, Daniels said.
Caylor-Hernandez originally was arrested in May 2018 by the Georgia Highway Patrol after she was found in a vehicle with about 3.8 kilograms of methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In addition to the FBI and DEA, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Daytona Beach Police Department took part in the investigation.
