The 39-year-old man was killed by firearm while riding a motorcycle and driving down Lionel-Daunais Street. His death was noticed on the spot. The investigation was initiated by the Longueuil police but was later transferred to the Sûreté du Québec because the event could be related to organized crime.
The individual shot shortly before midnight Thursday in Boucherville is Ivan Alejandro Silva, learned La Presse .
Silva was sentenced to three and a half years of penitentiary in 2015 for taking part in a savage stabbing attack against a client of a Montreal dance bar a year earlier.
During his release investigation, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) corporal testified that Silva was, according to the police, the boss of a network of cocaine importers linked to Mexican cartels.
The witness explained that Silva was observed by the police for the first time in 2007, after the arrest of a woman carrying $ 700,000 in a suitcase and preparing to leave for Mexico. He was later seen in other major investigations into organized crime.
One of these investigations, the Carcan project of the Sûreté du Québec, targeted the Hells Angels and Marc-André Lachance, convicted of beating an SPVM investigator on vacation in Mexico in 2011.
The RCMP corporal also reported that Silva was seen on spinning mills with gang leader Gregory Woolley, his deputies, and mafia clan chief Andrew Scoppa.
Finally, the officer also attributed to Silva and his group some other acts of violence committed in the early 2010s, including shots fired at the facade of the residence of a silver recycler in Repentigny, northeast of Montreal.
Silva, however, was not arrested in the few investigations in which he was observed by the police and he had no other criminal history apart from the assault at the bar dancer.
Ivan Silva was the boss of a housekeeping company in Brossard. During his parole board hearing, he said that he would clean up his associates and have no connection with organized crime. “You have never been involved or you have never been caught,” responded one of the commissioners.
Ivan Silva is not related to Frédérick Silva, currently accused of murder.
