Miami-Dade authorities said they made 28 arrests and recovered 2 guns during an enforcement sting targeting riders of the “Wheels Up, Guns Down” event in South Florida.
Since the operation started Saturday, cops have also impounded 34 vehicles and issued 41 traffic citations as of Monday night.
The traditional event, which draws hundreds of riders on bikes and ATVs on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, began as a way to raise awareness of the killing of a Philadelphia biker in 2014. It has since morphed into a weekend-long cross-county rideout which authorities argue puts drivers and pedestrians at risk.
Of the arrests in Miami-Dade, 4 were misdemeanors, 11 were felonies, and the other 13 were traffic-related.
