This is what volunteer firefighters faced when they arrived at the Road Knights Motorcycle Club on Heleeka Road in Hepburn Township late Sunday night, according to township Fire Chief Jeff Tempesco.
The entire one-story 40×40 building — which contained a bar, sound system equipment and televisions — was engulfed in flames. The fire was reported about 11 p.m. by two motorists who saw the blaze from Route 15, Tempesco said.
The last time anyone was in the building was early Sunday morning when club members closed, Tempesco said.
“It was a total defensive firefighting operation,” Joseph Hope, the township’s fire marshal, said, meaning firemen did not risk going inside the structure. The club had no insurance on the structure, which was built in the 1980s, Hope said.
There were no injuries. The cause of the fire remained under investigation. Firefighters from Hepburn, Old Lycoming, Woodward, Trout Run, Eldred, Loyalsock, Nisbet, DuBoistown and Montoursville responded to the scene.
