The long arm of the law caught up with the suspected leader of a local motorcycle club early Thursday.
Anthony “Gibby” Gibbs, 50, was wanted on a warrant for methamphetamine trafficking following a Jan. 9 raid of a house on Booth Quillen Road in Meads. The Ashland Police Department SWAT raided his home following an investigation by the Northeast Kentucky Drug Task Force.
An arrest citation shows Gibbs didn’t go far.
The Boyd County Sheriff’s Department received a tip Thursday that Gibbs was staying at the Cannonsburg Fairfield Inn, 2 miles from where the raid took place. The tipster told deputies Gibbs was driving an early 2000s Dodge flatbed pick-up truck spray painted black, according to the citation. When the deputy saw the truck pull into the hotel’s parking lot, records show he stopped it.
After exiting the truck, Gibbs was taken into custody, the records show. A deputy turned up a small bag of meth and a set of digital scales underneath the bench seat of the truck, according to the citation.
A task force officer confirmed Gibbs is only facing state court charges at this time. The officer said meth is increasingly becoming popular in the area’s drug culture.
“Meth is coming in heavy these days, because it’s being sold cheaper than heroin,” the officer said.
Online jail records show Gibbs is being held at the Boyd County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. He is set to be arraigned today in District Court on three drug charges.
Club name remains still undisclosed.
