MONGOLS bikies have abandoned their eastern suburbs clubhouse in Melbourne after falling foul of council regulations.
The Motorcycle Club is believed to have packed up and left the stronghold, in an industrial complex at Ferntree Gully, after concerns were raised about their use of the property.
The Sources told there were issues with insurance arrangements due to the Mongols’ alleged links to criminal behaviour.
A police spokeswoman said: “Victoria Police is aware that members of the Mongols eastside chapter have vacated a property in Ferntree Gully which was utilised as their clubhouse.”
“Police will continue to monitor the activities of OMC members and the public can be confident police will respond to any illegal behaviour and ensure a safe environment for members of the community.”
A Knox Council spokesman said he could confirm it had received reports a motorcycle club was using a Ferntree Gully premises without the required permits.
“This matter is in the early stages of being investigated and council wasn’t aware the club has moved out of the premises.
“We’ll continue to monitor,” the spokesman said.
The clubhouse is believed to have been one of two chapter headquarters the club operates in Melbourne. They have another base in Port Melbourne.
Both were raided last month during a sweeping police operation by detectives investigating the murder of Croydon fruiterer Paul Virgona.
Mr Virgona was shot dead on the EastLink tollway as he drove to work in the early hours of November 9 last year.
They are Aaron Ong, 34, of Kilsyth and Josh Rider, 29, of Port Melbourne.
