CORNWALL – A Cornwall man has been given a conditional sentence in connection to a 2016 drug bust tied to motorcycle clubs.
Rodney Helmer, 46, pleaded guilty this month to two counts of drug possession on the same of a trial.
Helmer pleaded guilty to possession of magic mushrooms (psilocybin). He also pled not guilty to trafficking in cocaine but guilty to the lesser included offence of simple possession, court records show.
A dozen other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.
Helmer will have to abide by court conditions for a little less than two years (20 months) and then will be on probation for two years (24 months).
A forfeiture order was processed for the cash and weapons seized in the drug bust. The weapons were a set of brass knuckles and a baton.
The Cornwall Police Service Street Crime Unit searched two homes on Anderson Drive and Prince Albert Street on June 17, 2016 and seized hash and cocaine. Helmer was one of two people arrested. Police said at the time that Helmer was a known member of the “13 Crew” – a support group for the Hells Angels.
All charges against 44-year-old Rachel Helmer were withdrawn by the prosecution. They included six counts of drug possession and one count of conspiracy to traffic cocaine.
The case was heard by Judge Laurie Lacelle and prosecuted by Ronald Turgeon.
