More Arrests Possible in “Project Barbarian”

Outlaws Canada

RCMP say more arrests are possible as a result of Project Barbarian—a four-month police investigation that targeted outlaw motorcycle clubs in Central Newfoundland.

Eight men are facing charges of trafficking in cocaine following a weekend raid on the Outlaws Motorcycle Club in Grand Falls-Windsor.

Six of those arrests involve men who are associated with organized crime, two with the Outlaws and four with an associated support club known as the Fallen Few.

Staff Sergeant Stefan Thoms says the majority of illegal drugs that come into the province do so through organized crime.

The so-called 1% outlaw motorcycle clubs are a big part of that organized criminal activity according to Thoms.

While all the accused are from central Newfoundland, the investigation continues and Staff Sergeant Thoms says that includes finding criminal links to other regions.

Their goal, says Thoms, is to address interprovincial connections and trafficking networks, and more charges are expected to be laid as that work continues.

There is no current estimate on the amount of cocaine seized as a result of the investigation, although Thoms says they’ve made a significant dent on cocaine trafficking in Central Newfoundland.
