Update on Cleveland motorcycle club shooting

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland police say a late Saturday shooting that left one dead and 17 injured was prompted by a fight during an anniversary party at a motorcycle clubhouse.

The Omens Motorcycle Club hosted the party Saturday night at the clubhouse, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said Sunday evening.

The building where the gathering took place, on East 93rd Street between Reno and Way avenues, is the clubhouse for another motorcycle club, the Cleveland Lyfers, according to a Facebook business page for the club. Members of other local and national motorcycle clubs, like the Zulus and the Wheels of Soul, were also at the party, Ciaccia said.

The shooting broke out after a fight at the party. Some individuals were kicked out but returned, firing gunshots at the other attendees, Ciaccia said. Gunfire was returned by some partygoers.

In total, 17 individuals were hurt and 1 man was killed, Cleveland police said. The injuries ranged from minor to serious, with the more critically injured people receiving treatment at MetroHealth and University Hospitals.

Killed person identified as Lee A. Dickson, 48.

Several Cleveland police units, including the Homicide Unit, the Gang Impact Unit and Fourth District Major Crimes, are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the shooting, Ciaccia said. Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and victims, and it is believed that some of the victims could be shooting suspects as well.

Officers recognize that it is likely that many partygoers left the scene prior to being interview by Cleveland police, Ciaccia said.

No information on arrests has been made public.

Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Bishop said Sunday that he is “outraged” over the shooting in his ward and is most concerned the shooting could lead to retaliation among motorcycle clubs from the area.
