Hundreds of bikers swarmed NY streets to attend funeral of Nene

NYPD today was forced to call a mobilization today due to corona Virus restrictions on assembly of more than 10 people at the Funeral for George Luna Jr. know as Nene , a man when talking to friends and family at todays funeral was loved by Everyone his life touched.

Hundreds of mourners on motorbikes flouted the ban on large crowds and swarmed the streets outside a Queens funeral home Friday — while two NYPD cops even directed traffic.

The streets were filled with the high-speed funeral procession at about 10:30 a.m. at the Leahy McDonald Funeral home at 111th Street and Atlantic Avenue — prompting outrage from leaders of one police union over the unsafe conditions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Now more Lunacy!” the Sergeants Benevolent Association wrote as it tweeted a video showing scores of motorcycles and ATVs at the funeral.

“400 plus bikers gathering crowds in 102 PCT heading to funeral. NYPD having to call a level 1 mobilization. . . Only in DeBlasio’s city, during a pandemic.”

Two cops were directing traffic in the video and at least eight other officers stood outside the funeral home, watching the procession drive down Atlantic Avenue.

In the video, none of the cops appear to do anything about the group of a few dozen people walking around or sitting on motorcycles or quads.

At one point, the cops outside the funeral home can be seen walking away from the crowd.

The crowd dispersed by 11:30 a.m., according to an NYPD spokeswoman, but she said she had no further information on the call.

The NYPD did not immediately respond for comment as to why no one was ticketed for ignoring strict rules put in place to try to stop the spread of COVID-19.

A person who answered the phone at the funeral home but would not provide his name or title said the crowd did not come in and the people had already left for the crematorium.

“We are very busy,” the man said.

Cops came in but did not give any tickets, according to the man.

A second video posted by the SBA shows the coffin in a carriage being pulled by a three-wheeler — followed by the procession, with some ATVs popping wheelies in the street.
