Four men, including a senior member of the Hells Angel have been charged following an ongoing investigation into alleged violent and criminal activity on the NSW’s South Coast.
As part of ongoing targeting and disruption of criminal networks, detectives from South Coast Police District with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad, commenced an investigation into illicit activities in the Bay and Basin area.
Following extensive inquiries, officers, with assistance from the South East Region Enforcement Squad, executed nine Firearms Prohibition Orders (FPOs) at homes throughout Sanctuary Point and Old Erowal Bay earlier today (Wednesday 10 June 2020).
During the searches, officers located and seized cash, steroids, knuckle dusters, ammunition and prohibited weapons.
Police also seized an unregistered firearm, a homemade gun and an air rifle.
All items seized during the operation will undergo forensic examination.
Four men – aged 32, 27, and two aged 24 – were arrested during the operation and taken to Nowra Police Station.
The 32-year-old Sanctuary Point man, who is a senior member of the Hells Angels MC, was charged with affray, armed with intent to commit indictable offence and possess prohibited drug. He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Nowra Local Court on Monday 27 July 2020.
The 27-year-old Old Erowal Bay man was charged with outstanding domestic violence-related offences. He was refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 10 June 2020).
The 24-year-old Old Erowal Bay man was charged with affray, assault and possess prohibited drug.
A second 24-year-old Old Erowal Bay man was charged with weapons and traffic offences.
The pair were granted strict conditional bail and are due to appear at Nowra Local Court on Monday 27 July 2020.
As part of investigations, shortly after 11am, police gestured for a vehicle to stop on Paradise Beach Road. The two occupants fled and were arrested a short distance away.
Police allegedly located methylamphetamine in the vehicle. The two men were released pending further inquiries.
South Coast Police District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Scott Nelson, said police will not tolerate criminal behaviour.
“We are alleging these men have been the perpetrators of a number of violent crimes and incidents in recent months in the Bay and Basin area,” Detective Inspector Nelson said.
“We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our South Coast community. We will continue to target those who choose to engage in this kind of criminal activity and rest assured they will face the full brunt of the law.”
“I urge anyone who has information about this kind of behaviour to contact South Coast police or Crime Stoppers.”
Following extensive inquiries, police allegedly uncovered evidence linked to a number of other ongoing investigations in the Bay and Basin area, including a home invasion in Basinview on Sunday 3 May 2020 that left a man in a critical condition.
Inquiries are continuing.
