Waterbury, Conn: Local Motorcycle Club defended Christopher Columbus statue from protesters

WATERBURY, Conn. — Protesters gathered near Waterbury City Hall to take down Christopher Columbus statue at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, but were met by counter-protesters from a local motorcycle club Rat Pack MC.

The organizer of protest and planned demolition of Christopher Columbus statue the Council of American Islamic Relations started from speeches about statues and police brutality following the death of George Floyd.

The protest heaten up after the Rat Pack Motorcycle Club showed up and began to cordone the Columbus statue.

The RPMC representer told that police brutality is not good, and club position also against it but they will not let the protesters to take down the statue and destroy their italian heritage.

“We believe what their rights are. We believe what happened to George Floyd was wrong but, you know, we also believe that you can’t attack other peoples’ heritage. I mean, it’s just not right.”, said Steve Mannetti from Rat Pack Motorcycle Club.

The Council of American Islamic Relations representatives saying about the statue, “That’s a symbol of hate. We don’t want to have any kind of symbol of hate. We want this movement to continue. You could have a Black Lives Matter flag that’s up here now but unfortunately, if you have a symbol of hate on the other side, do really Black Lives Matter to you?”

Due to the police stepped in everything finished relatively peaceful and this time the statue of Christopher Columbus was protected.

But another rally to focus again on the removal of the statue is scheduled to the next Friday.

UPDATE: Despite all civilized community efforts wild people beheaded the statue today at night.
