Former Bandidos bikie boss Brett ‘Kaos’ Pechey drops bail bid

A former Gold Coast bikie boss who was arrested in a dramatic raid at a WA Airbnb for allegedly making a death threat against police is still behind bars after dropping his bid for bail.

Brett Pechey – who is better known as “Kaos” and was linked to the Bandidos MC and Brothers 4 Life gang – has been in custody at WA’s high security prison for almost two weeks after being nabbed by detectives and heavily armed officers from the WA Police gang crime squad at the Belmont property in June.

The 33-year-old, who is covered head-to-toe in tattoos, has been hiding out in WA for the past 18 months and is wanted by Queensland police for skipping court in 2018. He only came to the attention of local law enforcement after he allegedly made threats against police.

At his previous court appearance, the hearing was told the catalyst behind the raid in Belmont was a message allegedly sent by Pechey that “coppers are going to die today”, with vision of a shotgun said to have accompanied the threat.

The court also heard the former bikie boss had been on a “self-described bender” and would be applying for bail. The hearing was adjourned so his lawyer Terry Dobson could view two videos — one from a car and another, relating to Pechey’s threaten to kill charge, from a police officer’s body-worn camera.

However, yesterday Perth Magistrate’s Court was told Pechey had dropped his bail application. Instead his other lawyer, Ted Dobson, asked the court for a four week adjournment to allow negotiations to take place with prosecutors.

Pechey has been charged with a number of offences including threats to kill, aggravated possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and breaching a police order. He is expected to appear in court again via video link on August 4.
