Joseph Lazo, who was also a Sergeant for an Illinois police department, died of his injuries from the crash Friday.
According to officials, the group was riding to celebrate the club’s birthday July 18 on Highway 16 when 28-year-old Ivan Robles Nevejas slammed into them. According to officials, Robles is an undocumented immigrant. He was originally facing three counts of intoxication manslaughter, no word if a fourth has been added.
The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office said Robles was on his way to Kerrville from Medina when he crossed the center stripe. Nine were injured and three were killed at the scene.
Sgt. Lazo’s leg was crushed during the accident and he underwent several surgeries over the past two weeks.
