LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Nicholas Lusson died in the Big League Sports Bar & Grill parking lot after a fight shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, Tippecanoe County Chief Deputy Coroner Carrie Costello said Sunday morning.
Lusson turned 36 less than two weeks ago. He died after a fight outside of the bar, 140 Frontage Road, which is just west of the Cracker Barrel restaurant near Interstate 65 and South Street.
Lafayette police say Lusson attacked Colton Mitchell, who along with Brandon Wilcox, had stepped outside of the bar about 10:20 p.m. Saturday and were confronted by members of the Hells Angels motorcycle club. Police said they’d responded to a report of a fight between rival motorcycle clubs. (Biker-News.com: some sources saying that other club in confrontation was Mongols MC, but this information still not confirmed.)
Lusson hit Mitchell in the head with a metal object, and Mitchell stabbed Lusson in the chest with a knife, according to police.
Lusson died at the scene, police said.
Mitchell was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Jason Hathaway, 43, attacked a bouncer, Brandon Osbourne, using brass knuckles, police said. And Brandon Johnson, 25, pointed a firearm at Osbourne, police said.
Another person, Shannon Payton, was stabbed in the torso.
None of those injured suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Lafayette police called the SWAT team to the scene because more people started arriving after the fight. The SWAT team stood watch while officers investigated the crime scene, Lafayette police Lt. Matt Gard said.
“It was a strange night,” Jim Rehwinkel said Sunday morning after he arrived to pick up his car that had been behind the crime scene tape Saturday night.
“I come out here because it’s pretty peaceful,” he said.
“I was sitting in the other side over there, and I really didn’t see anything happen,” he said of the fatal fight.

“I actually just came in to drop off some vegetables to the girls who work in there, because I have a garden, and have a beer,” Rehwinkel said. “The next thing I know, everybody’s rushing to the windows.
“The bikes come in,” he said. “I just figured somebody was out on their motorcycle. The next thing all hell is breaking out.
“It just got crazy,” Rehwinkel said.
Early Sunday morning, Lafayette police arrested Hathaway, of the 600 block of Gladys Street in Michigan City, and Johnson, 25, of the 4300 block of Loral Drive, Anderson.
Hathaway was jailed on suspicion of aggravated battery with substantial risk of death and battery with a deadly weapon.
Johnson was jailed on suspicion of pointing a firearm.
Both men remained jailed Sunday in lieu of a $100,000 surety bond and a $10,000 cash bond, according to online jail records.
