OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — This morning the Boys and Girls Club in Ozark received a surprise call from Mayor Bunting about a donation from the Infidels Veteran Riding Club. Programs such as the Boys and Girls Club of Ozark survive off of donations and grants.

“Infidels Motorcycle Club is a Veteran formed Veteran based motorcycle club for patriotic Americans and our supporting allies,” said, Jim Gillhouse, President of the Infidels.

When the Infidels moved their headquarters within the Ozark city limits, they met with Mayor Bob Bunting and fostered a relationship based on their philanthropic efforts. This got them involved with the Boys and Girls Club in town.

“Children are the future of our society, of our culture, of our world,”Gillhouse said. “Most of us are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, so we see the need to help better prepare our kids, grandkids, and those less fortunate.”

Earlier this month the motorcycle club hosted a poker ride, thrown together in under 2 weeks because of COVID. They were able to raise over two thousand dollars to donate to the Boys and Girls Club.

“It was a total shock to us,” said Jessica Moore, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club Southeast Alabama. “We are so fortunate to receive this, this is almost a blessing in disguise. I think we are all experiencing things this year that none of us expected so for them to walk in here with a check was very exciting.”

Moore says that two major fundraisers had to be postponed due to COVID-19 so donations of any kind are a blessing.

“We definitely were not planning on staying open during the school year as long as we have been, we are used to an 8-week summer program and so after that, we just go straight to after school programming, well this year with the schools going all virtual we really had to step up and do whatever it takes to get these kids into the online learning platform,” Moore said.

The Boys and Girls Club of Ozark will be open from 8-11a.m. beginning the 8th of September, for help with virtual learning.
