Drug bust in Dunedin targeted to King Cobras and Tribesmen MCs nets $40k cash, methamphetamine

Two people have been arrested after $40,000 in cash and methamphetamine was seized by police in Dunedin.

Police searched a residential property on Wednesday.

The search, which involved the King Cobras and Tribesmen clubs, led to the arrest of a woman who will appear before the Dunedin District Court on Thursday charged with multiple offences, Southern criminal investigation manager Detective Inspector Shona Low said.

Another club associate was arrested for aggravated robbery and other drug-related offences. The person is due to appear in court sometime next week.

“Police would not tolerate continued gang activity and harm from drug dealing and violence, while vulnerable people were already affected by the “extremely stressful” current environment”, Low said.

“Methamphetamine inflicts great harm on our communities,” she said.

“It destroys lives, ruins families, threatens the safety and wellbeing of communities and is often a major contributing factor in serious crimes.

“We are well aware that vulnerable people will continue to be exploited by those trying to profit by spreading harm in our communities, even during such extraordinary times as this.”

The raid follows a four-month investigation into the flow of methamphetamine into Queenstown.

A Christchurch woman is facing a series of charges after she was arrested following the investigation.

Waiaana Nathan, 27, appeared in the Christchurch District Court via audio visual link on Wednesday. She faces multiple charges relating to unlawful possession of firearms, as well as possession of methamphetamine, LSD and cannabis for supply.

Nathan was also charged with conspiring to deal methamphetamine and setting a man trap with intent to injure. She did not apply for bail.

Two more people – a 53-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman – were arrested in Queenstown and face numerous charges, mostly relating to the supply of methamphetamine.

Police earlier said they found approximately 200g methamphetamine, four firearms, including a pistol, and more than $30,000 in cash when they executed a search warrant at a Christchurch property.

Methamphetamine, other drug-related equipment, and an Audi vehicle were seized during searches at properties in Queenstown.
