RAPID CITY, S.D. – In honor of Armed Forces Day, the Rushmore Chapter of ABATE hosted a ride on Sunday afternoon to honor those who have served in the military.
Nearly 40 motorcyclists gathered at Founders Park in Rapid City and traveled to the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis to pay their respects.
Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May.
But organizers decided to postpone the event until Sunday due to the rainy weather.
The Rushmore Chapter of ABATE has more rides scheduled for later this summer.
“It’s just an opportunity to get together and enjoy ourselves on the bike as a group,” said Sandie Enger, PR Representative for the Rushmore Chapter of ABATE. “Kind of build that comradery among motorcycle riders. It’s just a way for us all to enjoy for a lot of us is a passion, which is riding motorcycles.”
ABATE stands for A Brotherhood of Awareness, Training and Education.
The organization is dedicated to defending the rights of motorcyclists and promotes motorcycle awareness programs.
