The residents and staff members of Westwood Retirement Resort were given quite the welcome surprise on Sunday morning with a visit from the Southern Interior Christian Riders motorcycle club.
Activities co-ordinator Christie Hughes captured the moment on camera, and says the residents had a great time looking at the beautiful bikes in the sun.
“The president of the club called me earlier this month and asked if they could come by for a tribute. They wanted to come by with their group to do some honking and revving up their motors and stuff for a tribute to the residents and our staff. I thought, you know, that’s great, shake it up a little bit on a slow Sunday morning.”
The seven motorcyclists even created signs to hold up for residents and staff, who gathered from the upstairs patio, outdoors entrance or their rooms to watch.
“They came through the round driveway twice and stopped and chatted with some of the residents that were outside watching. They all wore masks and did some social distancing and stuff and the residents were just happy to see them.
“The ones that didn’t come down to see them, they watched out on their patios when they came round and did their little honk and stuff.”
Hughes also gathered some of the staff on site, who were thanked by the club for their commitment and effort to care for seniors during the ongoing pandemic.
“It was a great way to spend a beautiful Sunday morning in July,” she says.
